Lift Her Up Letter| Take the Pressure Off: God is Sovereign

Lift Her Up Letter

Hey Reader, let's talk about sovereignty...

Why do we see changed plans as missed opportunities? As if God is not big enough to recycle chances or sovereign enough to save us from harm we can’t detect or see.

In this season, God has me resting and focusing on His sovereignty. It’s been my theme over the last few weeks, and honestly, it’s requiring me to unlearn what I thought I knew about sovereignty.

Sovereignty means authority. Rulership. 1 Timothy 6:15 describes God as the only sovereign King, the only ruler. That means He alone has authority over everything—not just kingdoms or nations, but also over time, calendars, systems, and mindsets. Over everything connected to our lives.

So why is it that when things don’t go according to our plans, we panic and believe we’ve somehow stepped out of God’s will? Maybe it’s because, deep down, we’re living as if we are sovereign and not Him.

Yes, it’s disappointing when things don’t go how we hoped. But there’s beauty and peace in knowing that God holds both ends of our story while also being present and active in the middle. Nothing that happens in our lives surprises Him. Nothing is beyond His reach.

The truth is, you and I do not have the capability of being sovereign. We don’t know the end from the beginning and that’s actually freeing! We don’t have to strive for perfect decisions. Our responsibility is simply to stay aligned with God’s voice, His promptings and His will.

Here’s the part of unlearning that has humbled me the most:
We don’t have enough power to ruin God’s plans for our life.

If we truly believe He is sovereign, then everything that happens has already been accounted for. He is not caught off guard. Instead of wallowing when things fall apart, what if we started thanking Him?

Release the pressure to perform perfectly. Life in Christ isn’t about perfection—it’s about participation and partnership. Yes, we’re accountable for our choices. Yes, we have agency. But none of that cancels God’s plans for us.

When we belong to Christ, our lives work in tandem with His Spirit. And that Spirit is working in you, not against you, to produce the outcome God desires.

So today, take the pressure off. God’s sovereignty is still at work in your story.

Reflection

  • Where in your life are you still trying to act as if you are sovereign instead of God?
  • How does remembering God holds both ends of your story (and the middle) shift your perspective on disappointments?
  • What is one area you need to release control in and trust God’s authority today?

Takeaway Truth:
You don’t have enough power to derail God’s sovereign plan for your life!
